Sponsors come up trumps for Meals on Wheels

Conor Phelan              March 4, 2015

Even though we hear and know of cuts day after day in West Cork, there is no doubting the community and voluntary spirit is still alive. On Friday, February 20th, at a reception in the Schull Social Centre, the keys of a new Citroen Berlingo van were presented to Michael Collins on behalf of Schull and Goleen Social Centres.  The van is to be used for the delivery of Meals on Wheels.

Schull and Goleen, now working together, deliver a Meals on Wheels service five days a week to recipients throughout the Mizen Peninsula; two days in-house, on Monday and Thursday in both centres, and the other three days with the Meals on Wheels Service delivered to people’s homes, which is hoping to be extended in the coming weeks.  The Citroen van is sponsored by Denis and Mary Ryan Car Sales, the vehicle insurance by BHP Insurances, the diesel fuel by Biggs of Bantry and a fuel tank for storing the diesel by Carbery Plastics.  All the staff and volunteers are most grateful to all four businesses for this generous sponsorship.
